Welcome

This site was created to chronicle and share my genealogy research. It is also a tool for others that are searching for their family members and to see if there is any connection to my family. This is a project that is going to take years to complete. It has been a labor of love, a great deal of fun and quite stimulating.

If you are interested in the various surnames, you can start with the ones across the top of this page or you can look for them in the categories section to the right.

Please leave comments on any of the posts/articles that you read or email me using the form on the right. I do want your feedback, I will try to answer any question, and I desire your interaction. Love to know how to improve this site to better serve you,

Meeting of Siblings Grandchildren

Posted by Tonya Keitt Kalule

Next Saturday, my mother Betty and her sister, Helen are suppose to meet some cousins of theirs that they didn't know existed until recently. Lydia McRae Harris along with one of her brothers, who still live in the McRae, Georgia area are going to Savannah and want to meet with their extended family. Their connection is through their grandparents. My mother's grandmother and Lydia's grandfather are siblings, they are two of the thirteen children of Mose and Matilda McRae. This would be a first for any of the descendants of these siblings coming together.
Susie McRae married Essex Ryals and all that we know are their children. One of their thirteen children was Maxie Ryals, who is the father of Betty, my mother, Helen Ryals, and Bernice Collins Ryals. The last of the thirteen, Susie Ryals Latson passed away in 2005. Most of the descendants of these thirteen are scattered all over the eastcoast, and we still need to get to know them.
My cousin Jesse McRae and I have been working on the family tree on and off for a number of years now, and have been able to reach back and find others, which is resulting in the meeting that is to take place on Saturday. Now we are stepping into another part of this family and there are just so many out there, and I look forward to finding them all.

There is one person in particular that I really want my mother to meet and that is Leila McRae Jones, she is the granddaughter of Matilda and Moses McRae, which makes her the closest blood descendant to them than anyone else that we know, and she lives right here in California. The funny thing is that she is my mother's age, but she is the first cousin of my mother's father Maxie. Lelia never met her grandparents, they had passed on long before was born, and she doesn't know very much about them. Her father John Franklin is the one who signed Matilda McRae's death certificate.

I am hoping that the day will come where we will be able to put enough pieces together to get the story of our ancestors. This is an exciting as well as exhausting journey.
